Los Angeles Police Officer Ted Hunt

Ted Hunt has been a Los Angeles Police Officer since 1975. The majority of his first ten years at LAPD were in uniformed services, including patrol, jail, traffic collision investigation and administrative support.

For the next ten years, he was assigned to the Police Academy were he was a Primary Academic Instructor. From 1992 to1993 he was the coordinator of Management and Executive Training under the auspices of then Chief Willie Williams. The third decade of his career has been spent as a full time director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, LAPD's union which reimburses the city for his salary and benefits.

Hunt served as President of the Protective League in the aftermath of the Rampart-Perez scandal where he surprised the police reform community when he declared that the Protective League was going to be a partner with the community and the Department to get to the bottom of the scandal and to help reform the LAPD.

His actions were very clear. Instead of using legal maneuvers to slow and stop the Board of Inquiry as many predicted the union would, he fully cooperated with the LAPD Board of Inquiry by directing League resources to assist the effort.
