Sex Crime Victims & Witness Protection Act Passes State Assembly Unanimously

Measure will Protect Victims, Witnesses, and Our Communities from Sexually Violent Predators

SACRAMENTO – State Assemblymember Pedro Nava announced today that his legislative initiative to protect victims, witnesses, and our communities from sexually violent predators passed the State Assembly on a unanimous bipartisan vote 74 to 0.

“I am very pleased that my colleagues in the Assembly passed my legislation with all aye votes,” said Nava. “This measure provides vital protections to victims, their families and communities from further harm by sexually violent predators.”

AB 2410-The Sex Crime Victims & Witness Protection Act of 2008

Protects victims and or witnesses by prohibiting disclosure to the attacker of a victim’s name, phone number and address, when the victim and or witness testifies at the SVP commitment hearing.  Without this basic level of privacy, many victims are left vulnerable.

A number of sexually violent predators have recently been released around the state, causing concern for our communities.  Assemblymember Nava’s initiatives will give prosecutors more tools to protect our communities as well as provide enhanced protections for victims and witnesses of these heinous crimes.
