City Heights Cleanup Yields Tons of Trash

SAN DIEGO – A recent neighborhood cleanup hosted by Assembly Member Lori Saldaña yielded over three tons of trash. The event was sponsored in conjunction with I Love A Clean San Diego and the Association for Community Action Now (ACORN).

“It shows what can be achieved when you devote just a few hours on a Saturday morning to cleaning up your neighborhood,” Saldaña said.

Assembly Member Saldaña and about 50 volunteers armed with rubber gloves, trash bags and orange trash grabbers, filled a 40-yard dumpster during the three hours of the October 29tst cleanup. A vintage exercise machine topped the list of most exotic items discovered in the City Heights neighborhood near the construction site of the Florence Joyner Elementary School.

Saldaña said she was impressed by the turnout at her recent beach and neighborhood cleanup events.

“Residents from all over San Diego have come out to help,” Saldaña said. “I’m really proud of my district.”

She noted that City Heights residents have recently organized themselves in an effort to keep their neighborhood clean. She hopes her events provide a spark for other neighborhoods to follow their example.

“With budgets tight at all levels of government, we have to rely on ourselves and our neighbors,” Saldaña said.

On November 19th, Assembly Member Saldaña will host a cleanup of North Park’s 32nd Street Canyon, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. If you would like to participate, please call her office at (619) 645-3090.

Assembly Member Saldaña represents the 76th District.
