Assemblymember Lori Saldaña (D-San Diego) said she was extremely disappointed that the court chose to allow the discriminatory law to remain in place. Here’s more in this Assembly Access video.
A Day of Contrasts
(Sacramento) – On the same day a Latina was nominated to be on the U.S. Supreme Court by President Barack Obama the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, the ban on same sex marriage. State Assemblymember Lori Saldaña (D-San Diego) drew a contrast between the two events, saying she’s very proud a Latina has made it to the highest reaches of the judicial system but equally saddened by the state high court’s ruling that denies equality to so many people. Asm. Democrats Outline Tax Day Reality Check
(Sacramento) – Assembly Democrats, led by Assemblymembers Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa), John A. Pérez (D-Los Angeles), Lori Saldaña (D-San Diego) and Juan Arambula (D-Fresno), provided a reality check for Californians bombarded with state budget related fiction from the “Tea Party” anti-tax protest at the state capitol. To showcase their point the Assemblymembers unveiled a 150 foot scroll listing more than $26-billion in state budget cuts made since 2003 and to show that even more severe cuts to schools and other basic programs would be required without the new revenues that were part of the 2009-2010 budget agreement. Here’s more in this Assembly Web Report.
