Assemblyman Solorio Invites Public to Education Town Hall
Studies on the Adequacy and Effectiveness of California's System of Education Will be Discussed

ANAHEIM, CA—State Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) will host an Education Town Hall on November 14, bringing together educators, administrators, and community leaders to discuss the results of recent studies about California’s educational system and ways to finance, reform, and improve schools.

“These studies provide a groundbreaking analysis of the resources needed to adequately educate a child, as well as how our state’s educational system can be reformed,” said Assemblyman Solorio, who is a member of the Assembly Education Committee.  “It is important for our communities to have an understanding of the results of these studies so that they can help improve our local schools.”

The Town Hall, titled “The State of Education in California,” will include a number of distinguished guests to provide their insights on the Getting Down to Facts studies:

  • Roberta Daetweiler, Area Director, California School Employees Association
  • Dr. Manuel Gomez, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, University of California, Irvine
  • Hon. Kathryn Moffat, Vice President for Community Concerns, California State PTA
  • Hon. Jose Moreno, Ed.D., Board Member, Anaheim City School District
  • Kris Murray, Vice President of Government/Community Relations, Orange County Business Council
  • Hon. Miguel Pulido, Mayor, City of Santa Ana
  • Jane Russo, Superintendent, Santa Ana Unified School District
  • Thomas Timar, Ph.D., Research Director, Governor’s Advisory Committee on Education Excellence

Thomas Timar, Ph.D., Research Director for the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Education Excellence and Professor of Education at the University of California at Davis, will be providing a presentation of the 23 studies that comprise Getting Down to FactsThese studies were completed under the auspices of the Institute for Research on Education Policy & Practice (IREPP) at Stanford University and can be viewed online at www.irepp.net.
