| Assemblyman Solorio Announces April 29th Citizenship Fair To Help Immigrants Apply For U.S. Citizenship Before Federal Fees Go Up In June 2007 | |
ANAHEIM, CA—Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) invites Orange County immigrant families to attend a Citizenship Fair on April 29th in Anaheim to apply to become U.S. citizens. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is proposing to increase the citizenship fee from $400 to $675 beginning this June. The goal of this Citizenship Fair is to register as many people as possible for their citizenship before this fee increase makes it unaffordable for some. At the fair, community leaders and organizations will be on hand to assist families with filling out the naturalization forms, taking passport photographs, providing information on the naturalization process, and offering examples of questions and answers for the naturalization interviews. Key participants in this effort to assist families include Assemblyman Jose Solorio and his staff, Hispano America Immigration Director Francisco Roman, Los Amigos of Orange County, League of United Latin American Citizens of Orange County, and local attorneys Alfredo Amezcua, Juan Barba, and Jose Alfredo Hernandez. “We have an opportunity to assist hardworking permanent residents and their families to start the path toward realizing their dreams to become American citizens. It would be a tremendous savings for these families, if we can assist them in submitting their applications before the new increases become effective,” said Assemblyman Solorio. Information on the Citizenship Fair: Date & Time: Sunday April 29, 2007; 7:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Assemblyman Solorio has proposed a resolution, Assembly Joint Resolution 18, that calls on President George W. Bush and the U.S. Congress to oppose the proposed 69% increase in the cost that legal immigrants must pay to undergo the naturalization process to become U.S. Citizens. The resolution passed the State Assembly and is pending in the Senate. Assemblyman Jose Solorio represents the Sixty-Ninth Assembly District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana.
