SACRAMENTO, CA—Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) has chosen Garden Grove teacher Teri Rocco as his Sixty-Ninth Assembly District’s “Woman of the Year.”

“I would like to personally thank Teri Rocco for her 33 years of service to the children of Garden Grove.  I also commend her for her current outreach work to parents and children in the Latino, Vietnamese, and Korean communities to promote access to various school programs and higher education opportunities,” said Assemblyman Jose Solorio.

Rocco was honored by the California State Assembly in an all day event at the state Capitol today that featured breakfast with Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, being honored on the Assembly floor by Assemblyman Jose Solorio and Assemblywoman Patty Berg, who chairs the Legislative Women’s Caucus, and VIP tours around the Capitol.  

Rocco taught first grade, primarily English Learners, for 19 years, taught English as a second language and parenting classes in the evening for 10 years.  She also served two years as a school community liaison and 10 years as an instructional aide.

She was named to her current position as a Teacher on Special Assignment in 2005.  Her duties include outreach to parents and students in the Latino, Vietnamese and Korean Communities to promote and support higher education communities for Garden Grove students.  Rocco partners with community agencies that offer higher education support and trains staff on how to work with parents to help their children continue on to higher education opportunities. 

Teri received her B.A. in Liberal Studies, Teaching Credential, and Special Education Credential from California State Univesity Long Beach.Assemblyman Jose Solorio represents the Sixty-Ninth Assembly District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana.  He is also the Chair of the Assembly Public Safety Committee.  For more information about Assemblyman Solorio, you can visit www.assembly.ca.gov/solorio.
