Welcome Message
I am humbled by your confidence in my ability to represent Central Orange County in Sacramento for the next two years. I pledge to take our problems and solutions to the state level with vigor. During the 2009-2010 Legislative session, I will continue to make education, public safety, transportation and job creation my top priorities.
Currently, I am in the process of formulating my legislative package. The process involves meeting with various groups and individuals to identify bill ideas.
The effort also includes your input. Individual constituents do have a voice and I’m anxious to hear it. If you have a legislative idea that you think will help you and your community, please contact my office.
I’m looking forward to the new session and am confident we will achieve a meaningful resolution to our budget woes while simultaneously moving important legislation. Please visit my website often for news and legislative progress reports.
Sincerely,

Jose Solorio
State Assemblyman

Assemblyman Solorio Delivers $5,000 Check to Anaheim's Abraham Lincoln Elementary
The Barona Education Grant from the Barona Band of Mission Indians chose Lincoln Elementary School as a grant recipient based upon the endorsement of Assemblyman Solorio. Principal Alejandro Ramirez announced that he plans to spend the money to buy books and supplies for the school's library.
"The shelf life of your average elementary school library book is only two years. After that, the books are either out of date or lost," said Assemblyman Solorio. "This grant will help the Lincoln Elementary School Library inspire the kids to read. I call that money well spent." Press release
Assemblyman Solorio Urges UC Regents to Oppose Pediatrics Closure
"The proposed merger of pediatric services threatens to close up to 33 pediatric beds at UCI Medical Center, affecting our County's families and children, and I want to make sure our kids aren't left without a hospital bed when they most need it." Press release

Good Deeds And Accomplishments
Congratulations to Mayor Bill Dalton, Steve Jones and Andrew Do in Garden Grove for their Nov. 4th City Council election victories; Mayor Miguel Pulido, Vincent Sarmiento, Carlos Bustamante and Claudia Alvarez in Santa Ana; and Harry Sidhu and Lorri Galloway in Anaheim.
Local school districts will be in capable hands with newly elected Governing Board members Rob Richardson, Jose Hernandez and Roman Reyna in Santa Ana, Linda Paulsen-Reed, George West and KimOanh Nguyen-Lam in Garden Grove, Katherine Smith and Brian O'Neal in the Anaheim Union High School District and James Vanderbilt and Susan Preus in the Anaheim City School District.
Congratulations to Anaheim City Attorney Jack White on his retirement after serving the city for 32 years. White has been an attorney with the City of Anaheim since 1977. His office represents and advises the City Council, City departments and officials on legal matters. In addition, his office represents the City in civil litigation and prepares all contracts, ordinances, resolutions and other legal documents. White will be sorely missed.
Congratulations to the West Coast Radiology Medical Group for their grand opening of their third Orange County Center. The West Coast Radiology Center of Santa Ana/Tustin offers the most up-to-date medical imaging available today. Assemblyman Solorio attended the official ribbon cutting to open the center.
Congratulations to Mission Hospital, Western Medical Center-Santa Ana and Hoag Hospital for being recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for exceeding organ donation goals. The HHS Medal of Honor is awarded to hospitals that donate at least eight organs a year with an eligibility rate of 75 percent. The hospitals work with OneLegacy to encourage family members to donate the organs of their loved ones. To learn more about organ donation, visit www.onelegacy.org.

Quote of the Month:
"Throughout the land the people should cease from their wonted occupations, and at their homes and places of worship reverently thank their giver for the countless blessings of our national life, and prove thankfulness by the way in which on this earth and at this time each of us does his duty to his fellow-men."
President Theodore Roosevelt on Thanksgiving, 1901
About Assemblyman Jose Solorio
Jose Solorio, the humble son of migrant farm workers, is the California State Assembly's representative from Central Orange County, including the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana. His election in November 2006 is the culmination of a lifetime of overcoming odds and striving to achieve.
As a California elected official, Assemblyman Solorio has provided leadership on pressing matters in his district; improving schools, creating jobs, preventing gang violence and enhancing transportation infrastructure.
Appointed by his peers in the Assembly to serve as Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Public Safety, Assemblyman Solorio authored legislation that created a $7.8 million prison reform overhaul and co-authored a bill that established the state's first anti-gang czar office.
As a member of the Assembly's Education Committee, Assemblyman Solorio has fought for budget funding for important state programs that provide English skills for children and adults, and authored legislation addressing the sky-rocketing price of text books.
Solorio's passionate efforts to increase opportunities for all Californians spring forth from an inspiring personal story. Solorio was determined to improve his family's standard of living and viewed education as the key to his future. He is an alumnus of the University of California at Irvine, where he served as student body president, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Solorio left a successful career in the private sector to dedicate himself to public service. He was elected to the Santa Ana City Council in 2000, and re-elected in 2004. While on the council, his colleagues appointed him to serve as a board member for the Orange County Water District.
Solorio is interested in using his experience in education, government, and business to help all Californians realize their hopes and dreams. Often asked why he dedicates so much time and effort in the community, Solorio recites one of Cesar Chavez's famous quotes: "The end of all education should surely be service to others."
Assemblyman Solorio, his wife Linn, and their two sons reside in Santa Ana.
