Welcome Message

Assemblyman Solorio presents $5,000 grant check to Jefferson Elementary School students and staff.

We had a very successful Education Town Hall this week in Santa Ana! We will report more on it in next month's
E-Newsletter.

Also, on the subject of education, I am pleased to announce that I nominated Santa Ana's Jefferson Elementary School to receive a $5,000 grant from the Barona Band of Mission Indians and the school was awarded the grant.

Principal Ford has announced that the money will be used to fund books and supplies for the school's new Accelerated Reader Program. I applaud Barona for awarding this valuable grant to Jefferson Elementary and am proud that my nomination played an instrumental role in the process.

In addition to authoring five pieces of legislation that were signed into law this year, I co-authored a number of significant bills that were also signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. For a list of those bills click, here.

One of my primary job responsibilities is to draft legislation that will improve the lives of Orange County residents as well as all Californians.

I am currently in the process of putting together my 2008 legislative package and wanted to invite my constituents to submit their legislative ideas. If you have any ideas, large or small, my staff and I would love to hear from you.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me at Assemblymember.Solorio@assembly.ca.gov if you have any ideas or need assistance with any other state matters.

Sincerely,

Jose Solorio
State Assemblyman

Mini-Biography of Assemblyman Jose Solorio

Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim) was elected to the California State Assembly last November to represent the Sixty-Ninth Assembly District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana.

Prior to joining the Assembly, Solorio served on the Santa Ana City Council and worked for the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). Solorio has an inspirational personal story to tell. He is the son and grandson of farm workers and grew up working in the fields and orchards of the Central Valley. His parents are humble people who taught him simple lessons: "Study hard. Work hard. Treat everyone equally. Take care of your family." Assemblyman Solorio plans to stay true to those values as he writes laws and engages in the political debate in Sacramento.
