Dear Friends:

October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month," a time in which Californians are encouraged to bring awareness to a disease that kills more than 500,000 people every year, and affects millions of Americans.  Every year, more than 180,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. This month is an opportunity to promote awareness and early detection of breast cancer as a key to fighting the disease.

I strongly encourage all my constituents to take this time to learn more about breast cancer and how we can help decrease the chances of developing the disease.  If you are at risk, please schedule yearly consultations with your doctor and conduct monthly self-breast examinations.  Early detection can make the difference between a swift recovery and a debilitating struggle. Do not allow yourself to become another casualty in the fight against breast cancer.

I will be supporting several events to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.  One such event is the Relay for Life of Rialto. This event will be held on October 11 at Jerry Eaves Park. Relay for Life is a twenty-four hour run/walk that promotes cancer awareness, remembers those we have lost to the disease, and our continued fight against breast cancer. Barbara McGee, Rialto City Clerk and Relay for Life of Rialto coordinator, expresses her gratitude to the community and supporters who plan to make this crusade for a cure a success this year.Your continued efforts and generosity are making a difference in the fight against cancer.

Sincerely,

Wilmer Amina Carter
