Assemblymember Charles Calderon addresses Rebuilding of Garfield High School |

East Los Angeles, CA - Fire damage to Garfield High School destroyed the school’s historic auditorium and caused extensive smoke and water damage to the school. Assemblymember Charles Calderon is working with government, community and business leaders to rebuild the auditorium and the classrooms and offices that were affected by the fire. “Garfield High School is not merely an educational landmark. It is a beacon in East Los Angeles that has illuminated the way to economic, artistic, and academic achievements for generations of students,” stated Assemblyman Charles M. Calderon. “I am committed to rebuilding Garfield High School.” Established in 1925, Garfield High School is an important fixture in the East Los Angeles community. Seventy-eight percent of unincorporated East Los Angeles’ population resides in the 58th Assembly District, of the nearly 4,400 students at Garfield High, over 3,800 students live in the 58th. Ninety- nine percent of the student body is Latino. Assemblymember Charles Calderon will be addressing the reconstruction effort at a press conference at 9 am on Wednesday May 30th at Garfield High School. ### Assembly Member Charles Calderon, Chair of the Revenue and Taxation Committee represents the cities of Downey, Industry, Montebello, Pico Rivera, Whittier and the communities of East Los Angeles, Hacienda Heights, South San Jose Hills and Valinda. |
