Assemblymember Warren Furutani Appointed as Chair of the Select Committee on Career Technical Education and Workforce Development

SACRAMENTO - Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez announced today the appointment of Assemblymember Warren Furutani as Chair of the Select Committee on Career Technical Education and Workforce Development.

The primary focus of this committee is to spearhead a statewide, comprehensive plan to coordinate how industry, education, labor, government and other key sectors of California, prepares its workforce for an ever-changing, global economy.

"The current budgetary crisis requires an innovative and creative approach toward solving the many challenges we face as Californians. As Chair of this select committee, I will work with all the partners in workforce development to better utilize and coordinate our efforts and maximize the resources we currently have,” stated Assemblymember Furutani.

Assemblymember Furutani was elected in a special election to the 55th Assembly District in February 2008 and represents the communities of Wilmington, Harbor City and the Harbor Gateway, Carson, and parts of Long Beach and Lakewood.

Assemblymember Furtani has 35 years of experience and involvement in education and public service, both as an elected official and a community leader.  As a three-term member of the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees, Warren was elected President of the Board in July 2002 and served as First Vice President in 2001.  He is also the only person to have been elected and re-elected to this board and to the Los Angeles Unified School District Board (LAUSD).
