Karnette Port Security and Infrastructure Measure before Senate Transportation Committee
WHAT: Assemblymember Betty Karnette (D-Long Beach), will present AJR 21 in the Senate Transportation Committee tomorrow. Assembly Joint Resolution 21 urges the President and Congress to increase federal funding for port security.

WHEN: Tuesday, June 7, 2005
Senate Transportation Hearing begins at 1:30 P.M.

WHERE: State Capitol, Room 3191

Assemblymember Karnette is Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Ports. A report on the Port Security Grant Program by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed that the existing policy to direct resources towards the nation's highest priorities is flawed. Assembly Joint Resolution 21, which encourages a greater pass through of customs revenues to states, was overwhelmingly approved in the Assembly and is supported by industry and labor organizations. Assemblymember Karnette's district includes both the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, two of the busiest ports in the nation.
