Lieu Responds To The Governor's Budget

The following statement was released by Assemblyman Ted W. Lieu (D-Torrance) today regarding the Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s budget.

“The Governor’s proposal is a good starting point for California ’s budget, but we can do better.

“Education is one of my main priorities so I was pleased to hear that the Governor has increased school funding. However, this budget proposal still fails to fully fund Proposition 98 - the Governor is not repaying the funds he borrowed from past years.”

“I was pleased to hear that the budget allocates $1.3 million to increase investigations and prosecutions of financial and identity criminals by the Department of Justice Special Crimes Unit.  This will help ensure that more people are protected from identity theft. Furthermore, the Governor’s budget proposal funds Proposition 42.”

“I remain concerned that the Governor is relying too much on cutting programs that help the neediest Californians – including the aged, blind, and disabled.  I hope that, as the process continues, we can restore some of those funds.”

“I look forward to working with the Governor and the Legislature to ensure a fair and balanced budget is passed in July.”
