Assemblyman Lieu Applauds Santa Monica for Taking Action, While FAA Still Does Nothing

Assemblyman Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) issued the following response to the City of Santa Monica passing an ordinance to ban larger, more polluting aircrafts from using Santa Monica Municipal Airport.  The ordinance was passed unanimously at the city council’s March 25th meeting and will take effect in 30 days:

“I would like to commend Mayor Herb Katz and the Santa Monica City Council for taking action to protect the health and safety of those who live near Santa Monica Airport.  As the Federal Aviation Administration continually turns a blind eye to enforcing strict safety standards, it is comforting to know that local government will step up to the plate to protect residents and our community.

Additionally, I would like to thank Marty Rubin, of Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution, and Councilman Bill Rosendahl for their tireless efforts in making the area around the airport as safe as possible.  I applaud them for their commitment to protecting the residents who have to breathe such polluted air, day in and day out.”

Assemblyman Lieu is the chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace.
