Assemblyman Lieu Presents $150,000 in State Funding to Lomita Railroad Museum

Lomita, CA – At a Ceremony this morning, Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) formally presented the City of Lomita with $150,000 in funds to be used for planning an expansion of the Lomita Railroad Museum.  Mayor Mark Waronek and other City and Museum officials were hand to participate in the announcement.

The funding comes from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment, which draws its funding from a section of Proposition 40 dedicated to preserving California culture and history.  Assemblyman Lieu championed the City’s application for funding and the need for expansion of the Museum’s facilities, particularly to expand educational outreach to the area’s youth.

“The competition for these funds was fierce, but it was important that Sacramento recognize the work being done by the Museum, the goals of the expansion project, and the way in which all aspects of the community have cooperated in moving this forward,” Lieu said.

Built in 1966, the Lomita Railroad Museum was the first of its kind anywhere West of Denver in the United States.   For more information on the museum, and a description of their expansion plans, please visit their website at www.lomita-rr.org.
