Lieu Named “Environmental Champion” By Leading Environmental Organization

Sacramento, CA Environment California, a leading environmental advocacy organization, named Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) one of their “Environmental Champions,” citing his perfect voting record on green issues in the State Assembly.

“This is a truly great honor,” Lieu said.  “I believe that protecting our natural resources is one of the most important issues we face in the State Legislature. Whether it’s improving air quality, fighting global warming, or protecting our beaches and oceans, I work every day to keep California green and beautiful.”

In his short time in the Assembly, Lieu has authored or co-authored many pieces of environmental legislation, including being a co-author of AB 32, California’s landmark greenhouse gas reduction bill.  He has also carried legislation on green buildings, alternative fuels, and controlling sewage spills.

In the press release announcing the award, Environment California said:

“We applaud and thank the…legislators who scored 100% because they consistently put the quality of California’s environment ahead of powerful interests,” said Lara Tabor, State Field Organizer for Environment California.

Lieu represents some of the most beautiful and environmentally threatened districts in California.  Assembly District 53 stretches along the coast from Venice and West LA in the North to Torrance in the South.
