League of California Cities Names Lieu One of Ten “Legislators Who Supported Local Government in 2006”

(Sacramento, CA) – In the latest edition of “Western City” Magazine, the League of California Cities named Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) as one of ten “Legislators Who Supported Local Government in 2006.”  Lieu, a former Torrance City Councilmember, was the only Los Angeles County Legislator to make the list.

“This is a great honor,” Lieu said.  “As a former City Councilmember, I have always jealously protected local control.”

In naming Lieu as one of the ten, the League cited Lieu’s strong stances in favor of local control, and his willingness to work with the League on legislation that affects cities.  They specifically noted that Lieu had opposed legislation that would have forced local cities to locate more group homes, and that he took recommendations from the league on how to promote “green” (environmentally-conscious) buildings.

“Local governments are the closest to their residents,” Lieu added. “They know best what is right for their cities.”

Assemblymember Ted Lieu represents the 53rd Assembly District, which includes the cities of El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Lomita, and parts of the City of Los Angeles.
