(Sacramento, CA) –The Speaker of the Assembly yesterday named Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) a member of the powerful Assembly Appropriations Committee, the committee which reviews almost every bill to assess its fiscal impact to the State.
“I’m really honored that the Speaker has given me these assignments,” Lieu said. “I’m looking forward to making sure that the taxpayers dollars are spent wisely.”
Late last year, the Speaker also tapped Lieu to be chair of the influential Banking and Finance Committee, which oversees all aspects of Banking, Mortgage Lending, Credit, and other financial products. Lieu was named to chair this committee because of his professional experience in the field. Prior to his election to the Assembly, Lieu worked in the General Counsel office at a major investment firm.
Finally, the Speaker named Lieu as a member of the Veterans Affairs and Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committees. Lieu was in active duty in the Air Force, and is still in the Reserves. In addition, Lieu represents the City of El Segundo, home of the Los Angeles Air Force Base. And the 53rd Assembly District has one of the largest stretches of coastline of any district in California.
“I’m excited about the opportunity that these committees give me to work on issues that really matter to my district,” Lieu said. “It’s going to be a great year.”
