| Schwarzenegger signs nine bills aiding military |
Associated Press - October 9, 2007 4:24 PM ET SACRAMENTO (AP) - Governor Schwarzenegger has signed legislation that will allow some husbands and wives of California troops coming back from combat to take unpaid 10-day leaves from their jobs to spend time with their spouses. Schwarzenegger has also signed measures that will help military members enroll in community college and California State University classes and give them protections against extravagant loan interest rates and deceptive financial services pitches. Assemblyman Ted Lieu (Lou) says his leave bill will would provide what he calls decompression time for members of the military and their families before they face the possibility of being shipped out again to Iraq, Afghanistan or another combat zone. The bill applies to military spouses who work at least 20 hours a week for an employer with at least 25 employees. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
