LOS ANGELES (KNX) -- In an attempt to decrease the number of close calls at LAX, a South Bay State Lawmaker proposed Thursday that the Federal Aviation Administration limit the limit the flight leaving LAX.
In a letter to FAA Administration Marion Blakey, Assemblyman Ted Lie (Dem-El Segundo) says that the "...continual drumbeat of close calls that could result in major catastrophe is unacceptable."
Lieu also recommends that flight be spaced further apart when departing and landing at LAX. He is also asking to ban mega-jets--like the Airbus A-380--from landing at LAX until safety improvements are made.
The FAA calls Lieu's proposals impractical, claiming that recent problem at LAX were due to the configuration of the northern runway not flight volume. |
