Assemblymember Ted Lieu on the Issues

Governor's Veto Record Nothing To Be Proud Of

(Sacramento) – California Assembly Democrats say the Governor's record setting use of his veto pen, and the rubber stamp veto message used on many of them, is not something to be proud of. Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) says Governor Schwarzenegger ignored his duty to carefully review all legislation when he decided to use a “canned” veto message to dismiss dozens of pieces of legislation. During a news conference in Los Angeles Assemblymember Lieu said, “He had time, while bills were sitting on his desk to go to the Republican state convention. He had time, while bills were sitting on his desk, to go and speak in cities across the state. If he had time to do all that, certainly he had the time to do the work that the California Constitution charges him with.”

Fixing the Foreclosure Crisis

(Sacramento) – As the mortgage meltdown in America continues to cause stress and strain for thousands of families, Assembly Democrats in the California State Legislature are working to reform the mortgage industry, hoping the proposed regulations will mitigate the financial pain. Led by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) and Assemblymember Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), Assembly Democrats have crafted a package of legislation designed  to change the way home loans are prepared and implemented. Here’s more on the Assembly Democrat’s mortgage crisis relief and reform package in this Assembly Web Report.
