INGLEWOOD, September 18, 2007 – Assemblymember Curren Price (D- Inglewood) hosted a Judgeship Workshop to help licensed California attorneys work through the complex judicial application process, on Monday. Approximately 50 attorneys who are currently pursuing appointment to California Superior Court attended the workshop with drafts of their judicial applications in hand. Fredericka McGee, General Counsel for Assembly Speaker Nunez, opened the event by providing an overview of the make-up of California’s judiciary and emphasizing the importance of diversifying it. “It is imperative that California’s judicial bench accurately reflects the full scope of the cultures and ethnicities in our communities,” said Assemblymember Price. Six Superior Court Judges, Michael Carter, Brenda Harbin-Forte, Burt Pines, Patricia J. Titus, John Meigs, and Bobbi Tillmon, facilitated the working clinic and shared their personal experiences with participants. The panelists collectively advised the prospects that the judicial application was the most difficult and important job application that they are likely to submit. Judge Pines, former Judicial Appointment Secretary to Governor Gray Davis, helped to demystify the application process by providing details about each stage. Judge Harbin-Forte conducted an actual application clinic; taking participants through each section of the application, followed by a question and answer session that allowed all of the panelists to address specific concerns of the participants. Assemblymember Price closed out the workshop by emphasizing his commitment. “My office will continue to provide any support that we can to assist you in the process,” said Price. “It is my sincere hope that this room holds some future appointees and that this workshop helped you to achieve your goals.” Assemblymember Curren Price serves the 51st Assembly District, which includes Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Westchester, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook, as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera. |
