| Newly Appointed Chief, Jacqueline Seabrooks, Becomes a Member of the Elite 1% of Female Chiefs in the U.S. | |
INGLEWOOD, August 15, 2007 – Assemblymember Curren Price (D-Inglewood) congratulates Jacqueline Seabrooks, who was appointed the new Chief of Police by the Inglewood City Council last night. Chief Seabrooks is the first woman police chief in Inglewood history. “It is the difficult job of the chief of police to command officers and protect their integrity, while ensuring that the community is served and protected with the utmost integrity,” said Assemblymember Price. “It is a position that is character- dependent, regardless of gender, and I am thrilled that the city council used conscientious and unbiased diligence to find the best person for the job.” Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks’ law enforcement career spans 27 years; 26 of which have been with the City of Santa Monica. Her command experience includes providing executive leadership for the Office of Special Enforcement, the Office of Operations and most recently as Captain in the Office of Criminal Investigations. She has a proven leadership record in a number of departmental programs which specifically address community concerns. Most recently, she provided primary leadership for Phases I and II of Operation Safe Streets and she was responsible for the department’s participation in the Westside Regional Gang Task Force, an allied law enforcement agency partnership focused on reducing gang violence in the Westside Cities. Moreover, Seabrooks was instrumental in developing and providing cultural competencies training to officers in Santa Monica, Louisiana and Massachusetts. Captain Seabrooks was the highest ranking woman in the Santa Monica Police Department, and the first woman to earn promotions to the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and captain in the police department’s 111 year history. She holds both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Public Administration and is a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy and the Senior Management Institute of Police. Assemblymember Price hopes that his constituents in Inglewood and throughout the 51st District join him in congratulating newly appointed Police Chief, Jacqueline Seabrooks. |
