SACRAMENTO—Assemblymember Price announces that his bill, AB 603, has passed unanimously from the Assembly floor. This bill extends the sunset on the portion of the Safe at Home Program that ensures confidential voter registration for victims of Domestic Violence. “For victims of domestic violence, privacy and safety can be matters of life and death. I am encouraged by today’s unanimous vote that this bill will pass safely through the Legislature,” said Assemblymember Price. The Safe at Home Program was originally a temporary program composed of a series of parts with expiration dates. The purpose of the expiration dates was to ensure that the project was successfully utilized. Last year, while the expiration dates on many of the components of this very successful program were extended, the voter registration aspect was not part of that legislative extension. Assemblymember Price’s bill, AB 603, will ensure that victims of domestic violence will be able to express their civic concerns at the ballot box without fear of having their address or any other personal information visible in any public records. “As Chair of Elections Committee, one of my top priorities is to remove some of the identified hindrances that disenfranchise Californians from exercising their right to vote,” said Assemblymember Price. “Surviving domestic violence and the fears that accompany that survival should not stop people from all public and civic activities.” Assemblymember Curren Price serves the 51st Assembly District, which includes Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Westchester, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook, as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera. |
