INGLEWOOD – Assemblymember Curren Price (D-Inglewood), as Program Ambassador to The Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation’s (SSHF) Project Read for HOPE™, is proud to announce that this Tuesday, March 7, 2007, the SSHF will pick 20,000 brand new books to be donated to children throughout Southern California. Since the inception of the foundation’s reading project in 2003, the SSHF has already donated approximately 20,000 brand new children’s books valued at $85,000 to children and schools in the greater Los Angeles area, in order to promote a love for reading to all children. Tuesday’s book choosing will essentially double the number of books donated by the organization since its inception. “Books open new worlds and new possibilities for children. I am proud of the Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation’s efforts to provide these wonders for our youth, and for all of the work that they do in our community.” said Assemblymember Price. The Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation was formed in loving memory of Stephanie Starks who passed at the age of 14 years old from a misdiagnosis of Bacteria Meningitis. The Foundation became a Public Benefit 501 (c) 3 in 2004, and is committed to raising awareness and funds for critical social issues in order to make a positive impact both within the local communities and throughout the nation. Assemblymember Curren Price serves the 51st Assembly District, which includes Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Westchester, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook, as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera. |
