Assemblymember Curren Price And The Legislative Black Caucus Release Report On The Status Of Black Californians

Assemblymember Price introduces the Economic Opportunity Initiative  to revitalize California’s Inner Cities

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Curren Price (D-Inglewood) and the California Legislative Black Caucus in a press conference today released the State of Black California Report, which provides an overview of the quality of life for blacks in California. The report was the result of a one-year research project that included qualitative and quantitative data collection measuring the status of the state’s black population relative to whites and other ethnic and racial groups along economic, social, and health related dimensions. The nine-member Caucus, which is the largest delegation in the state’s history, commissioned the report in order to develop a public policy agenda for the Caucus that would improve the lives of Black Californians.

Assemblymember Price also announced that he has introduced AB 232, the Economic Opportunity Initiative, as part of the State of Black California Report.  AB 232 would advance an integrated set of neighborhood revitalization and wealth building strategies for California’s inner cities through an emphasis on increasing business investment, homeownership and the 21st century workforce. Assemblymember Price and the California Legislative Black Caucus will be working very hard with all interested parties throughout the legislative session in order to reach these goals.

“It is important that we have a coordinated effort in accomplishes the necessary revitalization of our inner cities, and in order to accomplish goals, we must utilize California’s existing resources along with directing the new bond money to help the most disadvantaged areas in our state,” said Assemblymember Price. “Having a strategic plan to address our communities’ problems is the best way to foster solutions and to make drastic improvements.”

Assemblymember Curren Price was inaugurated on December 4th and serves the 51th Assembly District, which includes Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Westchester, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook, as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera.
