SACRAMENTO – Responding to the annual State of the State address, Assemblymember Curren Price (D-Inglewood) today said that the potential for cooperation outlined in the governor’s remarks, especially on redistricting, could be a signal a successful year.

“As Chair of the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee, I am committed to working with the Governor, the Speaker, and my colleagues on redrawing district lines in a way that is fair, reflects our state’s diversity, and is accountable to the people of California,” said Assemblymember Price. 

Assemblymember Price was on hand to see the state of the state address delivered in the Assembly Chambers joined his colleagues, members of the State Senate, the state’s constitutional officers and members of the California Supreme Court.  The State of the State address will be followed by the governor’s official release of his 2007-2008 budget proposal on Wednesday.

“In his State of the State address the Governor recognized that Californians agree with many Democratic positions on health care, education and the environment and that Californians liked the bipartisan approach and real accomplishment of last session,” Assemblymember Price said. “The governor and Democrats have shown the willingness to compromise, and hopefully legislative Republicans will too. Anyone who wants to obstruct progress and act partisan isn’t giving the public what it wants or needs.”

Assemblymember Curren Price was inaugurated on December 4th and serves the 51th Assembly District, which includes Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Westchester, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook, as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera.
