Newly Inaugurated Assemblymember Curren Price Takes Oath With Judge Mablean Ephriam

Assemblymember Curren Price ceremonially takes oath of office in Inglewood City Hall

INGLEWOOD – On Sunday December 10, 2006 Assemblymember Curren Price (D-Inglewood) ceremonially took his oath of office in Inglewood City Hall and was sworn in by Judge Mablean Ephriam. This ceremony comes nearly a week following the official oath that Assemblymember Price took with his fellow Assembly colleagues.

Assemblymember Price has a lifetime of involvement as a community activist and advocate. His commitment and involvement especially within the 51st Assembly District began as student at Morningside High School in the mid 60's when he was the first African-American elected student body president. Since then, he has served as Deputy for two members of the Los Angeles City Council, and later as the Southern California Coordinator for a statewide association that provides training to assist community based organizations with developing commercial real estate projects. Most notably, Assemblymember Price has served over ten years on the Inglewood City Council, having been elected five times by Inglewood’s citizens. For the past three years, Assemblymember Price has been a consultant with the Small Business Association sponsored Small Business Development Center where he conducts workshops and consults on business planning.
“I am honored to serve the great constituents of the 51st Assembly District and all Californians,” said Assemblymember Price. “I appreciate all the support I received from my family, friends, and constituents, and I am committed to improving funding to our schools, availability to health care, and revenue flow throughout the 51st district.”

Earlier this week California State Assemblymember Curren Price was appointed to chair the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee, as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger calls upon the Legislature to overhaul redistricting of legislative and congressional districts. As Chair of the Assembly Elections and Redistricting Committee Assemblymember Price will be part of the negotiations regarding redistricting and term limit reforms with the Governor.

“I am excited about the opportunity and ability to oversee the challenging issues of redistricting, term limits, and voter participation as Chair,” said Assemblymember Price.  “I am looking forward to confronting the difficult issues that will affect California while working with Governor Schwarzenegger, Speaker Nunez, and my colleagues in the California State Legislature. Expanding voter registration and increasing voter participation, while ensuring the fundamental right to voting have always been my top priorities.”

Price serves the 51th Assembly District, which includes Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Playa Vista, Lawndale, West Athens, Lennox, Alondra Park, West Compton, Del Aire, and Willowbrook, as well as portions of the unincorporated area of Ladera.
