The Committee for a Better 51st AD was formed to proactively improve the 51st Assembly District by helping Assemblymember Price identify the most pressing issues and concerns that impact our community and to collectively work together to take action to improve these conditions.
Anyone is welcome to join the committee or one of the seven sub-committees at anytime.
The Seven Issue-Based Sub-Committees are:
Health
Public Safety
Youth & Education
Transportation
Environmental Concerns
Technology
Special Events
To become a member of the Committee for a Better 51st AD, you can join one or more of the sub-committees or be an at-large member to the whole committee.
The next meeting for the Committee will be Thursday, June 26, 2008 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Closing the Achievement Gap and Working Together for the Future" was the theme of last week's Education Summit hosted by Assemblymember Curren Price. | May is Barbershop Health Outreach Month |
Assemblymember Price and his colleagues in the LBC are recognizing the innovative work of the Barbershop Health Outreach Program during the month of May. The program was designed to address the health concerns of African American males by performing targeted health screenings and health education outreach at a network of Barbershops throughout the 51st District, Greater Los Angeles and the entire nation.

| Assemblymember Price Pays Tribute to a Fallen Hero: Firefighter Brent Lovrien |
Lovrien, 35, was a 10-year LAFD veteran who worked at Fire Station 95 on Century Boulevard.
He succumbed to injuries incurred when he responded to the explosion in Westchester on
Wednesday, March 26th, 2008. Lovrien showed extreme courage and great honor, paying the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community.

The Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce (GLAAACC) presented Assemblymember Curren Price with their Community Service Award in recognition of the work he has done to support small businesses and strengthen the community. The award was presented at GLAAACC's annual Economic Awards Gala, sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Approximately 575 guests attended.
Other notable honorees included: Congresswoman Laura Richardson, Commissioner Timothy A. Simon, Judy Chu and Victor MacFarlane.
