Escutia And De La Torre Announce The 14th Annual Southeast College Conference

College recruiters from across the nation will be on hand to speak with local youth

South Gate, CA – Seeking to highlight the abundance of bright, dedicated and talent-rich students that reside within the Southeast Los Angeles County area, Senator Martha M. Escutia and Assemblymember Hector De La Torre, in collaboration with the Southeast Community Development Corporation, will host the 14th Annual Southeast College Conference on Saturday, October 7, 2006.

The one-day college conference will be held at SouthEast High School, located at 2720 Tweedy Blvd. in the City of South Gate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“I am proud to join Senator Escutia in bringing the resources that high school students need in deciding to pursue higher education" states Assemblymember Hector De La Torre.  "I am committed to ensuring that a college education is more accessible to the students of the Southeast communities of Los Angeles County."

“During the last fourteen years the college conference has shown that students in the Southeast are just as talented and motivated as any other students in the country”, states Escutia. “It has been my goal as their representative to provide these students with the resources to compete in today’s global market”.

Since 1992, the Annual Southeast College Conference has been the primary avenue for local youth to obtain up-to-date information on the college experience.  Both students and parents will have the opportunity to attend workshops on topics such as the college admissions process, financial assistance resources, scholarship information, and career paths.  Students will have the opportunity to interact with recruiters and admissions counselors from over 60 colleges and universities from across the nation.

The Annual College Conference is made possible through the generous support of community partners that include AT&T, Rockview Farms, Sopp Chevrolet, The Gas Company, Educational Testing Services, and Southern California Edison. The conference is free and open to the public.  All high school students and parents are encouraged to attend this informative event.
