De La Torre to discuss Governor’s budget cut impacts on Healthcare with local community clinics and healthcare providers

Lynwood, CA—Assemblymember Hector De La Torre (D-South Gate) will gather with nearly 100 health care providers from across the Southeast cities to discuss Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger’s budget cut impact on local health care and human services providers.  De La Torre believes that it could take away necessary resources from Los Angeles County’s nonprofit community clinics, and leave nearly 1 million low-income, uninsured and underserved individuals without services.

“These proposed cuts would increase the number of uninsured in Los Angeles County, and further widen the gap and our ability to meet the growing need,” said Assemblymember De La Torre.  “Local clinics and health centers strive to provide access to quality healthcare for the communities they serve. The Governor’s proposed budget would severely damage this cost-effective primary and preventative health care system.”

AltaMed Health Services Corporation, President and CEO Castulo de la Rocha, J.D, said: As a health and human services organization, we are disappointed with the proposed budget cuts and look forward to working with the Governor and our state legislators to find a workable solution.”
