Assemblymember Eng Releases Statement On Violent Threats Against Wilson High School Students

Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Mike Eng (D-Monterey Park), Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Hate Crimes, released the following statement today in response to the violent threats made on Glen A. Wilson High School’s Wikipedia page.  According to news reports, an anonymous person claiming to be a student posted numerous graphic and violent threats directed at the San Gabriel Valley High School’s primarily Asian badminton team.

“I am deeply concerned by the intimidating and threatening nature of these web postings. I can only imagine what these students and their families felt after learning of these cruel and vicious threats.  Fortunately, these threats never manifested themselves into true acts of violence and I commend the Sheriff’s Department for their quick and decisive response to this situation.  It is critical that we all do our part to monitor and report threats like these.  Further, I strongly urge the parents, faculty and administration at Wilson High School to investigate and address any underlining racial tension that may exist on campus to ensure that it’s not symptomatic of a larger problem.”
