SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman Mike Davis announced today that Governor Schwarzenegger has signed AB 1240 (Davis), which will increase the Los Angeles Community College District’s ability to provide educational opportunities for students. AB 1240 improves access to education in those areas that may have limited access to community college programs by streamlining the district's ability to enter into leases for educational facilities. 

Specifically, AB 1240 creates a pilot project authorizing the Los Angeles Community College District to enter into a lease of a facility of less than 50,000 square feet to be used as an educational center for up to five years prior to the requirement that the facility be retrofit to Field Act compliance. AB 1240 also streamlines the process for selling or leasing district property by eliminating an out-dated requirement that a community college district call for oral bids prior to finalizing a contract for sale or lease of district property.
