| Governor Signs Bill Combating Out-of-Control Gas Prices | |
SACRAMENTO, CA — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed AB 868 (Davis) which addresses a concern that consumers may be paying more for fuel under the current reference temperature of 60 degrees due to California’s warmer climate. AB 868 requires the California Energy Commission -- in partnership with the California Air Resources Board -- to develop a comprehensive study, cost benefit analysis, and make recommendations back to the Legislature. “When temperature rises above 60 degrees, gasoline expands. But California’s pumps don’t account for the larger volume. So while the pump says you’re getting a gallon of gas, you may actually be getting less. And that adds up. What doesn’t add up is that consumers may be paying more, but getting less,” stated Davis. “AB 868 takes a responsible and comprehensive approach in determining whether California consumers are paying more at the pump,” Davis continued. AB 868 is sponsored by the California Independent Oil Marketers Association and is supported by the California State Automobile Association, the Automobile Club of Southern California, The California Service Station & Automotive Repair Association (CSSARA) and the California Growers Association. Assembly Member Mike Davis represents the forty-eighth Assembly District, which includes the cities of Athens and Los Angeles (Korea Town, South Central, Wilshire Boulevard).
