July 20, 2007 – Sacramento –In the morning hours of floor session, Assemblymember Mike Davis (D- Los Angeles) today requested to adjourn in memory of Former Fist Lady, Lady Bird Johnson. Lady Bird Johnson was the wife of United States President Lyndon B. Johnson. Throughout her life, she was an advocate for beautification of the nation’s cities and highways and conservation of natural resources. She passed away at her Austin, Texas home on Wednesday, July 11, 2007. “Mrs. Johnson used the position of first lady as a meaningful vehicle for change, embracing leadership roles to beautify America, win acceptance of racial equality in her native south and nurture children’s early learning through the Head Start Program.” Assemblymember Mike Davis said today, during the adjournment motion. “Not since Eleanor Roosevelt had the nation seen a first lady take such an active role. One of her biographers calls her ‘a strong and persistent American woman who helped us say goodbye to the ‘50s.” he said.
