Assemblymember Mike Davis Announces The Passage Of The 07-08 Budget Act On The Assembly Floor

July 20, 2007 – Sacramento – After an all-night session that led into the morning hour of 4 a.m., the California State Assembly approved the State Budget Act by a 56-23 vote.

Davis was pleased that the Assembly came to an agreement after more than two weeks of intense negotiations between Democratic and Republican leaders.

“The Assembly has passed a balanced budget that contains no new taxes, creates no new programs, pays down debt and has the largest reserve in history – all while doing our duty towards schools, the elderly, blind and disabled and other vulnerable Californians like foster kids and the mentally ill. We’re being responsible fiscally and morally,” Assembly Member Mike Davis said.

“While there have been policy differences, the civil way in which the budget process unfolded in the Assembly this morning is a positive sign for health care reform and other key issues awaiting action at the end of the legislative session,” he said.

The budget will now go to the Senate Floor where it will be voted on by the whole Senate.
