Bill Combating Out-of-Control Gas Prices Passes Senate Business & Professions
AB 868 passes out of Senate Business & Professions Committee

SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Mike Davis’ (D-48) - Assembly Bill 868, which seeks to combat out-of-control gas prices, passed out of Senate Business & Professions Committee today.

AB 868 will require the Department of Food and Agriculture -- in partnership with the California Energy Commission (CEC), and the California Air Resources Board -- to develop a comprehensive study, cost benefit analysis, and make recommendations back to the Legislature for future legislation and regulatory action to prevent rip-offs at the pump.

“When its temperature rises above 60 degrees, gasoline expands. But California’s pumps don’t account for the larger volume. So while the pump says you’re getting a gallon of gas, you’re actually getting less, and that adds up. What doesn’t add up is that consumers are paying more, but may be getting less,” stated Davis.

Assemblymember Mike Davis’ bill takes a responsible and comprehensive approach to determining whether California consumers are paying more at the pump and if we are, what we can do about it.
