| Hollywood's Brightest Stars Come Out For Living Legend Award | |
California Assemblyman Mike Davis honored Grammy Award Winner “Dionne Warwick” at the California State Assembly Annual Living Legend Award Ceremony in commemoration of African American History Month on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles. Hundreds turn out in the pouring rain to witness the gala event. The event, MC”d by the Assemblyman himself, (in Grammy form), opened up with a stunning and tasteful rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” performed a-cappella by “Another Peace”, followed by a very strong and spiritual performance of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing”, sung by Locally renown artist Jessica Smith, then a poem by 10 year old Satori Folkes-Stone (Little Miss Africa). The program was full of well and professionally performed lyrical and instrumental versions of Dionne’s greatest hits from the twenty-two peace orchestra of Everett Turner, jazz/blues vocalist Barbra Morrison, pianist Rodney Franklin, former Temptation Ali Woodson and recording artist Desiree Coleman-Jackson with a show stopping performance. However while all performers turned in command performances, there were two young ladies that the Assemblyman introduced them as “the up and coming and next Dionne’s” The duet of fifteen and twenty year old Samantha & Ana Stachan, who performed four of Dionne’s songs and “sang like song birds in the key of life”. Their style was from Marian Anderson to Whitney Houston and I guarantee you we’ll be hearing from them again. The Legendary Mr. Soul Train himself, Don Cornelius was given the honor of introducing Dionne, during which he recalled many historical facts attributed to Ms. Warwick including her appearance at the first Soul Train Awards. The Living Legend Award Ceremony truly lived up to its expectation, honoring an African American that has left her mark on American History. |
