| Where Black is Brown: The African Diaspora in Mexico” by Dr. Humber, a professor at the Ethnic Women’s Studies Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, is a research project designed to further the understanding of Africa’s influence and contributions to the diverse cultures and histories of the Americas. It especially is designed to foster greater understanding among African American, Latino, and Indigenous communities about their historical connections, common struggles and triumphs, and their intermingled sangre (blood) that has produced beautiful and dynamic peoples of the Americas. |

Assemblymember Mike Davis meets with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to discuss the Cal-GRIP grants being offered by the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services. The purpose of Cal-GRIP is to provide grants to cities and community-based organizations for gang prevention, intervention, reentry, education, job training and skills development, family and community services, and suppression activities. More than $9,000,000 in anti-gang funding opportunities is currently being offered, $2,000,000 of which will be targeted to CBOs. |

Assemblyman Mike Davis joined other local elected officials in supporting Security Officers at the Century City Rally after the LA County Federation Conference held in Century City during December 2007. Assemblyman Davis helped support the right for security officers to organize years ago as a Senior Deputy to Supervisor Yvonne Burke. He assisted in getting a resolution from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in support. |
