Assemblymember Karen Bass Responds to Foster Care Funding in 2006-2007 State Budget
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles), chair of Select Committee on Foster Care, issues the following statement regarding the funds allocated to Foster Care in the 2006-2007 State Budget approved by the State Legislature and signed today by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“The foster care funding in the State Budget, which is the largest in recent years, will help us move in the right direction as we continue to make strives to improve the state’s Foster Care System,” said Assemblymember Bass. “The $82 million will help achieve our goals by strategically funding areas that we can immediately impact like minimizing social worker case loads, providing housing for emancipated youth and providing additional resources for relatives who care for foster youth. I’m excited about this direction and look forward to working with foster care stakeholders to ensure our efforts are affective and efficient."

Assemblymember Bass is the Chair of the Select Committee on Foster Care. Under her leadership, she has obtained bi-partisan participation on the Foster Care Legislative Packet, which addresses emancipation, health, education, relative/kinship issues, social worker workload, court issues, state oversight, and caregiver support.
