Assemblymember Karen Bass to hold Community Town Hall Meeting to Discuss a Moratorium on the Death Penalty
WHAT: Assemblymember Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) will hold a town hall meeting on a Moratorium on the death penalty on Sunday, April 23rd 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Iranian Muslim Association of North America (IMAN) Center. Assemblymember Paul Koretz, constitutional lawyer Stephen Rhode and several exonerated individuals will also be on hand to explore both sides of the debate on a moratorium on the Death Penalty. This community event will offer residents an opportunity to express their views and concerns on this hot button issue.

This event is co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, which includes the Progressive Jewish Alliance, Action Committee for Women in Prison, Death Penalty Focus, Amnesty International, The Campaign to End the Death Penalty, People of Faith Working Against the Death Penalty, Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Los Angeles, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California.

Background: Karen Bass was sworn into office in January 2005 as the first newly elected African American woman to the state legislature in more than 10 years. Bass was named by Speaker of the Assembly, Fabian Nũńez, to the executive leadership position of Majority Whip. As the Assemblymember for the 47th District, Karen Bass serves the cities and communities of Culver City, West Los Angeles, Westwood, Cheviot Hills, Leimert Park, Baldwin Hills, Windsor Hills Ladera Heights, the Crenshaw District, Little Ethiopia and portions of Korea Town and South Los Angeles.
