Results Provide Opportunity to Improve Quality of Life throughout the State

WHAT:

Members of the California Legislative Black Caucus will be on hand at the State of Black CA Sacramento Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, August 30, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the State Capitol in Room 4202. At this event, members will give an overview of the results from the State of Black CA report, which provides a snap shot of the quality of life of Blacks in California including Sacramento.

The report was the result of a one-year research project that included qualitative and quantitative data collection measuring the status of the state’s black population relative to whites and other ethnic and racial groups. The nine-member Caucus, largest delegation in the state’s history, commissioned the report in order to develop a public policy agenda for the Caucus that would improve the lives of Black Californians. INFO: The Legislative Black Caucus strives toward implementing strategies to empower the Black community throughout California. These strategies include stronger partnerships with our communities and businesses. The goal of the State of Black California report is to develop a public policy agenda for the Legislative Black Caucus (LBC) by engaging community members in a dialog about conditions faced by Blacks in five regions of the State and by engaging academics in compiling data documenting the social and economic conditions of African-Americans in California. An additional goal is to expose African-Americans around the State to Black legislators and expand participation in the legislative process.
