Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair John A. Pérez Disappointed in Prop. 8 Ruling

(Sacramento) In this Democratic weekly address Assemblymember John Pérez, Chair of Assembly Democratic Caucus, expresses his disappointment with this weeks announcement from the California Supreme Court that it has upheld Proposition 8, the ban on same sex marriage. In the address Assemblymember Pérez says, Sadly, a court that was with us a year ago was unable to be with us on Tuesday. I am heartened by Justice Morenos dissenting opinion and his eloquent words that even a narrow, limited exception to the promise of full equality strikes at the core ofthe guarantee of equal treatment. Asambleístas Demócratas Decepcionados con la Decision de la Corte Sobre la Prop. 8

(Sacramento) En el mensaje semanal Demócrata, el Asambleísta John A. Pérez, Lider del Bloque Deócrata de la Asamblea Estatal, expresó su decepción con el anuncio esta semana de la Corte Suprema de California que confirmó la decisión de la Proposición 8 de no permitir el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo. En su mensaje, el asambleísta Pérez dice: says, lamentablemente, un tribunal que estuvo con nosotros hace un año en estos momentos no ha podido hacerlo. Me siento satisfecho por la opinión de desacuerdo del juez Moreno y sus elocuentes palabras cuando dice que "hasta una pequeña y limitada excepción a la promesa de la plena igualdad daña el principio de la garantía de igualdad para todos."
