June 12, 2008 – Assemblywoman Brownley had the distinct honor and pleasure of meeting Her Excellency Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria, President of Chile, as a delegation from her country visited the Capitol.  President Bachelet was inaugurated in March 2006.  She is a surgeon and pediatrician, has served as Health Minister and Defense Minister, speaks 5 languages,  and is considered one of the most influential and powerful women in the world

May 16, 2008 Assemblywoman Brownley joins forces with parents and other advocates for education at a demonstration outside the Governor’s Los Angeles Offices demanding that school funding be protected.

April 21, 2008 – Assemblywoman Brownley rallies with historically-garbed advocates on the State Capitol steps to protest the Governor’s budget “solution” of state park closures.  After massive protests state-wide, the Governor withdrew his unpopular proposal.

April 19, 2008 Joining with the California State Parks Foundation representatives, rangers and hundreds of volunteers from the 41st District and beyond, Assemblywoman Brownley was on hand at Malibu Creek State Park to head out and help pickup trash on the annual Earth Day Cleanup.

April 15, 2008 The serious risks to both human health and the environment of polyvinyl chloride (now known as “poison plastic”) are highlighted by Assemblywoman Brownley at a press conference on her bill, AB 2505, which would set an effective date to ban PVC packaging in California.

April 12, 2008Speaking to the Topanga Canyon Docents at their annual Field Ecology Workshop weekend, Assemblywoman Brownley assured them of her determination that none of California’s precious State Parks would be closed to the public because of the state budget crisis.

March 10, 2008  Woodland Hills resident, Agi Kessler, is honored in the State Capitol by Assemblymember Brownley as her 2008 Assembly Woman of the Year.  Under Kessler’s leadership as Chair of the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, DPSFV funded and ran the largest campaign headquarters in California, making 150,000 calls, walking 200 precincts, and monitoring 130 polling places.

March 7, 2008 Taking the wheel of the technologically-advanced, liquid-hydrogen-fueled BMW 7 Series test vehicle.  A fascinating tour of the BMW facilities in Port Hueneme capped off a briefing for Assemblywoman Brownley, and a visit to the economically vital Port of Hueneme in the 41st AD.

November 16, 2007 -- WRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA STRIKE Out on the picket lines with striking writers and other elected officials, Assemblymember Brownley demands a fair agreement from the producers and a resumption of negotiations back at the bargaining table.

October 25, 2007 -- NWPC-WESTSIDE CALENDAR It took 50 years, but Assemblymember Brownley finally becomes a calendar girl, honored by the National Women’s Political Committee-Westside on the March page of their 2008 official calendar.

October 20, 2007 -- Calabasas Farmers Market. While we're out of Session. I'm trying to get out into the communities of the vast 41st Assembly District as much as possible so I can hear from constituents first hand about what's important to them. Thank you to the many constituents who were out shopping at the charming Calabasas Farmers Market and took the time to stop by my table and introduce themselves.

October 21, 2007 -- The Perfect Firestorm Hits Malibu. In the early hours of Sunday Morning, October 21, a wind-whipped brush fire took off, sparked apparently by a downed power pole. Just over a month later, on November 24, wildfire struck the Malibu mountains again, this second one far more destructive.

July 4, 2007 –  INDEPENDENCE DAY.  Assemblywoman Brownley participated in a hometown parade in Santa Monica, followed by the annual Pacific Palisades parade.  This year’s Palisades Grand Marshal was entertainer Pat Boone, with his wife Shirley.

June 30, 2007 – HISTORIC KING GILLETTE RANCH OPENS TO THE PUBLIC.  The gates to this magnificent property in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area have been officially opened.  It is one of the newest acquisitions and a truly unique public parkland.

June 23, 2007 – 2007 SEABEE DAYS.  Assemblywoman Brownley was extremely proud to attend the Annual Seabee Days at Naval Base Ventura County with the assembled community, local civic leaders and the military command.

June 21, 2007 – SANTA MONICA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.  Assemblywoman Brownley was honored to join many other distinguished guests at the graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2007.

June 12, 2007 – Former Congresswoman, and the nation’s first woman Vice Presidential candidate, Geraldine Ferraro was in Sacramento in June.  Assemblywoman Brownley felt fortunate to have the opportunity to have dinner with her and get to know this very interesting woman and political pioneer.

April 20, 2007  LAS VIRGENES HOMEOWNERS FEDERATION ANNUAL BANQUET.  2007 Federation surprise “Citizen of the Year” award goes to Jess Thomas, long-time activist in the effort to protect and preserve the rural character of the Santa Monica Mountains in and around the 41st AD.  Assemblywoman Brownley gave the keynote address at the evening’s dinner.

April 16, 2007HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR RECOGNITION.  Assemblywoman Brownley proudly honors Holocaust survivor Hershel Frankiel as the Assembly recognizes “California Holocaust Memorial Week” and marks the lives of these remarkable citizens.

March 10, 2007 – “NO LNG” RALLY.  Actor Pierce Brosnan, along with Assemblywoman Julia Brownley and others, testified forcefully at a “No LNG” rally on the Malibu Pier to raise public and media attention to a risky floating LNG project offshore from Malibu and South Oxnard.  Project was ultimately rejected by all state agencies and vetoed by the Governor.

February 2, 2007MALIBU UNVEILS WASTEWATER TREATMENT CENTER.
Assemblywomen Brownley joins the City of Malibu as they proudly turn the switch on a much-needed new wastewater treatment facility that will help clean the waters of the Santa Monica Bay.
