Assemblymember Julia Brownley Announces Capital Fellows Program

(Woodland Hills, CA) Assemblymember Julia Brownley today announced the availability of applications for the 2007-08 Capital Fellows Program.

“This 11-month program gives college graduates the opportunity of a lifetime to become full-time policy assistants,” said Brownley. “Assembly fellows, for example, work on fiscal and policy issues in an Assembly Member’s Capitol or committee office, and participate in a weekly academic seminar with Assembly Members, senior staff, journalists, lobbyists, and state government officials.”

These fellowships are also available for work with members of the State Senate, legislative committees, senior executive branch staff, court officials, and other top ranking government officials. Collectively known as the Capital Fellows Programs, fellows in each program earn 12 graduate credits from California State University, Sacramento, and are paid a monthly stipend of $1,972 per month, plus health, dental and vision benefits.

“These are extraordinary opportunities to engage in public service and prepare for future careers,” concluded Brownley. “The ranks of former fellows include a Justice of the Supreme Court, members of the U.S. Congress and State Legislature, a deputy director of the Peace Corps, corporate executives, and local government and community leaders.”

18 Assembly Fellows, 18 Senate Fellows, 18 Executive Fellows, and 10 Judicial Administration Fellows will be selected, with interviews to be held in May in both Los Angeles and Sacramento.
To be eligible, applicants must have earned their undergraduate degree by September 2007. Individuals with advanced degrees or mid-career professionals are encouraged to apply.

Informational brochures are available on request at Assemblymember Brownley’s District Office. Applications are available online at www.csus.edu/calst/programs/ and must be postmarked by Wednesday, February 28.
