| Assemblywoman Julia Brownley Says: State of the State Address Groundwork to Begin Discussions |
|
| Sacramento, CA -
Responding to the annual State of the State address, Assemblywoman Julia Brownley (D-Santa Monica) today said the Governor’s comments address the very important issues that face Californians. “It is very encouraging that the Governor has made health care, education and the environment his priorities for a prosperous California. I share his priorities and look forward to the discussions ahead,” said Brownley. “I am very hopeful in the coming months that we can forge the right solutions for California – quality health care for everyone, a clean, pristine environment and the best public education system in our country.”
Assemblymember Brownley was on hand to see the State of the State delivered in the Assembly Chambers, joined by her colleagues, members of the State Senate, the state’s constitutional officers and Justices of the California Supreme Court. The State of the State address will be followed by the Governor’s official release of his 2007-08 budget proposal on Wednesday. “As chair of the Budget Sub Committee #2 on Education Finance, I have to say that nothing is more important than ensuring our children and young adults get the education they need to succeed,” Brownley stated. “I am encouraged that the Governor wants to fully fund education this year and build more schools and classrooms. However, education cannot be compromised and it is critically important to find ways to invest more.” Assemblywoman Brownley said she will focus on education, health care, transportation and the environment when the Legislature begins its work during the next several weeks. |
