SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Lloyd Levine (D-Van Nuys) today urged the people of his district to support the Walk of Hearts Foundation and its September 9 event which will honor eight outstanding teachers in the LAUSD districts from the San Fernando Valley.

The 2006 Walk of Hearts Plaque unveiling takes place Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 10 a.m. on Sherman Way between Remmet & Alabama in Downtown Canoga Park.

This year’s recipients are: Fran Pikhart, Donnamae Huberman, Paul D. White, Laura Aguilera, Edward Victor Moreno, Scott King, Herman Katz, and Eleanor Bralver. Each will be presented with a bronze plaque which will be permanently embedded in the sidewalk along the Sherman Way Corridor – similar to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“These teachers are the heart of our community – everyday they are dedicated to giving our kids their very best,” Assemblymember Levine said. “In recognition of their hard work and unique ability to inspire students in the San Fernando Valley, I would encourage everyone to come to the upcoming Walk of Hearts event and support the teachers that support our kids.”

The Walk of Hearts award was created as a way of bringing overdue recognition to teachers that have the unique ability to inspire, mold, encourage, and change the lives of their students. The awards not only recognize dedicated teachers, but they put the spotlight on the Canoga Park community, bringing needed publicity to attract thousands of new visitors to discover the community’s hidden treasures and shop at the local businesses.
