Assemblymember Lloyd Levine's Statement on the LAO's Report Criticizing the Governor's May Revise to the State Budget

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Lloyd Levine (D-Woodland Hills) today released the following response to the Legislative Analyst’s report on the Governor’s May revise.

“This budget is not befitting the state of California. This is a smoke and mirrors budget,” Assemblymember Lloyd Levine said. “There has been no increased revenue between the initial budget in January and the new May revise. There has in fact been a decline in revenue. Holding education whole simply means rearranging the deck chairs on the Titantic. We are facing significant cuts to transportation, health and welfare, child care and even education is not being funded to the level it should be.”

“We are either going to need drastic cuts or new revenue or a combination of both but trying to paper over the problem and using smoke and mirrors to provide the illusion we can handle this is not doing a service to the state of California or to the people of the state,” Assemblymember Lloyd Levine said.

Assemblymember Lloyd Levine says its time for a real dialogue with Californians about what priorities they want reflected in the budget.
