Assemblymember Lloyd Levine Honors Arlene Alpert as 'Woman of the Year'

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Lloyd Levine (D-Van Nuys) today honored Arlene Alpert, a community activist, as the 40th Assembly District “Woman of the Year.”

“Arlene Alpert’s tireless commitment to the San Fernando Valley makes her the ideal choice to be the 40th District’s Woman of the Year for 2007,” Assemblymember Levine said. “Whether she’s putting her energies into making community events as successful as they can be or working to help keep our kids safe, healthy and productive, she gives of her time in a way that’s truly inspiring and worthy of praise.”

Arlene Alpert has been highly-active in community service and volunteering endeavors in the 40th Assembly District. She chaired, planned and supervised the Assemblywoman’s Community Organization, including breakfasts, meetings and other fundraising events for almost 100 people. She also coordinated the Gala event for the Valley Industry & Commerce Association and raised over $35,000.

Alpert also was the founding director of the Community Liaison Council for the Encino Tarzana Regional Medical Center and a founding member of Kid’s Safe – an organization to inform the community of child molesters located in the area and to provide community programs for the protection and education of children and parents. She was also a member of the board of directors and executive board for Mad About Rising Crime, an organization dedicated to combat crime and provide alternatives for youth and the community.

In 2005, Arlene Alpert received The San Fernando Valley Business Journal Women Who Mean Business Award. She lives in Northridge, and received a bachelor of arts degree in Sociology from California State University, Northridge.

Each March, the California State Assembly commemorates Women’s History Month through a ceremony in which each state legislator chooses an extraordinary woman in his or her district for special recognition. Honorees participate in a ceremony, hosted by the Legislative Women’s Caucus, on the Assembly Floor and spend the day with legislators.
